NEWS & EVENTS
During the opening of the classes for the A.Y. 2014-2015, the English teachers conducted a Pre-reading activity (Phil IRI) as part of the annual program of the Department of Education to assess whether the students are Independent reader, Instructional reader or Frustration reader. It is found out that among 2,525 students in ANHS-Dela Paz Extension, 544 students are INDEPENDENT readers, 1,790 students are INSTRUCTIONAL readers and 181 (7.17%) students are FRUSTATION readers.
The result of the Pre-reading activity (Phil IRI) has been proven to be very alarming to the English teachers and this opens the opportunity to conduct the reading intervention program for Frustration readers.
It was observed that during the reading intervention, the students are doing the “word calling” where they sound out words but they do not know what the word means. This was given emphasis and led to the discussion of the reading strategies to achieve reading comprehension since; we believe that, when one reads, there must be comprehension otherwise no reading takes place. This has been found to be helpful to the students’ reading achievement.
The result of the reading intervention propitiously turned to be a good sign of improvement which is evident in the result of the Post-reading activity where the number of frustration readers decreased by 3.45%.
DPNHS Dance Troupe
Posted May 01, 2014
The troupe is composed of skilled and very talented students from Grade 7 to Fourth Year. They can do cultural, modern, hiphop and other form of dance. Their existence, not only in our school, but mostly outside activities, has already proved that we really got students who are not only good in academics but in dancing as well.
The dance troupe has started in 2011 by the current MAPEH Department Chair Mr. Arturo S. Catanyag, with the great help of Mrs. Carmencita B. Docto and Mr. Jonell A. Alagano. They have been performing already with the different competitions especially, in the annual SUMAKAH FESTIVAL, all packed with funded costumes and props.
As the year passes by, our dancers were exposed to different competitions and invitational performances like: “NUMERO UNO SA TALENTO ANTIPOLO, THE GRAND OPENING OF ROBINSONS ANTIPOLO and THE REXONA DO THE MOVE CHALLENGE. These experiences were a great help to tell/show other schools and the community that we learn from experience and these experiences will mark a legacy to our beloved school, not because they win competitions but having the life-long learning – DISCIPLINE, PASSION and RESPECT.
